Left Screams In Rage
As Right Brings Up
Completely Valid Point
That Most Mass Shooters
Are Mentally Ill

For some reason, many on the Left didn't like Wayne LaPierre or others bringing up the fact most of these mass shooters the past couple of years turn out to have serious mental illnesses.

But in fact, from the highly publicized incidents that have happened the past few decades, it's ALREADY well known that most of these mass shooters were suffering from very real mental problems:

[You know what kind of incidents involving guns AREN'T taken national by the MSM to promote a cause?  Incidents like this one:

Only incidents where guns are MIS-used need apply for national attention from our media.]

Mother Jones published a report detailing on how over 1/2 the shooters in the 62 mass shootings they studied had demonstrated clear mental health issues before their fatal incidents:

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/11/jared-loughner-mass-shootings-mental-illness

Nearly 80 percent of the perpetrators in these 62 cases obtained their weapons legally. Acute paranoia, delusions, and depression were rampant among them, with at least 36 of the killers committing suicide on or near the scene. (Seven others died in police shootouts they had little hope of surviving, regarded by some experts as "suicide by cop.") And according to additional research we completed recently, at least 38 of them displayed signs of possible mental health problems prior to the killings.
Since it IS far easier to blame inanimate objects as the 'cause' of the problem, and control objects rather than people, to some it makes much more sense just to ban/restrict access to guns than it does to actually try to control criminals or the mentally ill.

But then some commit the faux pas of asking if these bans actually WORK. Do they make people safer, do they prevent these kind of shootings? Does the gun crime rate go down in a city/state with strict gun control, or does it go up?

Chicago, which currently has a total gun ban in place and has just about the strictest gun control in the country, had more than 500 murders last year, over 80% of them with firearms.

It strains credulity to believe that passing a few more bans/gun restrictions will solve Chicago's violent gun crime problem. Yet this is exactly what some will propose as the problem gets worse and worse.

You have two issues here: criminals running around free using guns to commit their crimes and mentally ill people that can't be committed or many times even treated due to strict involuntary committal laws.

The fact the Left is extremely soft on criminals is no secret; they've spent decades compiling a record on that issue. Rather than tackle the source of the problem - the broken revolving door justice system that lets violent felons out to victimize others over and over - Liberals distract from their failure by attacking 'root causes' - poverty, racism, income inequality, and guns.

As dumb as this sounds, the Liberal agenda is to 'fix' society while going easy on individual criminals because it's not really their fault. They are victims, you see.

So they'll keep trying to make it easier for proven violent felons to mingle with the rest of us while also making it nigh impossible to commit the mentally ill, no matter how anti-social & disturbed they get. Because the real problem is an unjust society and all those Evil Guns out there.

  1. I've heard plenty from the left on these shooters being mentally ill - in fact many MSM sources (since you think they're all lefty) made a point of it when discussing LaPierre's weird blame-rant about video games, music, and Hollywood movies.

Therefore LaPierre is a daft fart.

  2. Yes, on the LEFT you can bring it up. Guys on the Right like LaPierre? Not so much. That sort of thing can't be allowed because it takes time away from the discussion about the evil guns that are causing all these mass shootings.

This 'national discussion' has to focus primarily on the faults of the Right and how they 'cause' this kind of stuff, much like they wasted lots of time trying to blame Sarah Palin for the AZ shooting of Gabby Giffords. If you were on the Right pointing out maybe we should be talking about how crazy Loughner was, you were just some wingnut trying to derail the important discussion about how Palin caused this violence.

BTW, certainly don't endorse EVERYTHING LaPierre says. The whole blame video games/movies, we agree on that. Totally absurd.

  3. You should understand, discussing the mental state of mass shooters focuses on still another failed Liberal policy: deinstitutionalization of mental patients, the loss of space for the mentally incompetent, and the impossibility of committing involuntarily. Liberal organizations will even fight laws that require that mental patients take there medicine regularly. I believe it's called "dying with your rights on".
